Currency in Croatia

Croatia has been a member of the European Union since 2013, but so far you cannot pay with the euro. In fact, the currency used in Croatia is the kuna. Since 1994, the Croatian currency has been the national currency and one Croatian kuna equals 0.13 euro cents. In Croatia, there are several places where you can exchange the euro to a Croatian kuna, such as ATMs at airports and in supermarkets.

The advantages of paying with the euro while on holiday in Croatia

Despite Croatia having been a member of the EU for almost a decade, it is not yet possible to pay with the euro today. But that will change from 2023 onwards. Time to delve into the advantages of this switch! For a start, it will make your trip easier. After all, you have fewer things to take into account before you leave on holiday. Besides, it saves time when you want to buy something somewhere, you no longer have to convert the amount on the spot. Finally, prices are expected to fall so that Croatia will be on a par with other European countries using the euro, which in turn is beneficial when you visit one of the campsites. For example, rent one of our bungalow tents near the harbour town of Rovinj where you can water-ski, surf or sail and discover what Croatia has to offer!

Going on holiday to Croatia? From 2023, you can pay with the euro!

You want to go on holiday to Croatia, but can you pay with the euro? Imagine; the tickets are booked, your bags are packed and you're eager to enjoy your holiday with Easyatent, but you forgot to look into Croatia's national currency. Don't panic, the Croatian kuna will be exchanged for the euro on 1 January 2023! Why has this taken a longer time? It has to do with the fact that an EU country has to meet a number of financial conditions before adopting the euro. In 2019, Croatia took the first step towards being able to use the euro, and since 2020 it has been actively working towards eventually adopting the euro as its currency. This process took a total of two years, in 2022 the country's entry into the eurozone was approved. From 1 January 2023, you can exchange kunas for euros at post offices and banks in Croatia for six months.
